A Night Out

The After Dark Music Series, for thirteen years, has been presented by all volunteers. The evening before every show, volunteers set up tables and chairs, clear the alter, set up lights and prepare for the next day. Other volunteers include CD sales, tickets takers, and take down. A special feature of the series is our kitchen volunteers. Patty Crosby, has been preparing "tasty" light meals and desserts, available one hour before the show and during the breaks since 1995. Bo Cleveland, a chef at Middlebury College, creates 2 original delicious entrees at each concert and Craig Bingham prepares fresh, healthy soups. Join us in an informal setting, with a chance to spend time with friends before the music begins. All benefits go directly to the operation of the After Dark Music Series. Teas, coffee, juice, and milk are on sale. Note: No meals will be on sale on our November 29th concert with Leon Redbone at the Town Hall Theater, however, we will have desserts, coffee, tea and juices on sale. Dine out before the concert at one of Middlebury's finest restaurants.

Pictured here are a few of the kitchen volunteers. A soup offering is at every concert. In the past soups offered have included corn chowder; curried butternut squash soup; lentil; or organic butternut squash soup with cider, to name a few. Two entrees are offered. Previously these offerings have included: Tortellini with peppers, tomotoes, chipotle cream with pumpkin seeds; "Bangers & Mash" - sausage and mashed potatoes (in honor of our performers from Northern England); Chicken and herb biscuits with vegetables; penne pasta with roasted squash, onions and fennel; or jambalaya (in honor of our performer from New Orleans), to name just a few.
Mark Mulqueen, and Silent Partners have been providing all our technical requirements for thirteen years. Without Mark and his crew, we wouldn't be able to bring this talent to Middlebury and Vermont. He provides top notch sound and always with a smile and patience!

Garnet Rogers is one of the 87 concerts, to date, presented by After Dark Music Series. We began in the Knights of Columbus Hall, now the Town Hall Theater. We moved to The United Methodist Church when renovation began at the Theater in 2001. Altho we love the new Theater, (it is our logo) and it will bring great performances to Middlebury and has saved a beautiful, historic building, the United Methodist Church has provided us with a very comfortable, intimate space. This has allowed us to offer meals on sale before the concert, and provides a full evening for our audience. With seating for 200 and offering "raked" seating, it has great sight lines to the performers. We are, however, bringing one performer this season to the Town Hall Theater on November 29th. We are very excited to be there for this concert.
Performers have included: Folk, such as Tom Paxton, John Gorka, Christine Lavin, Cheryl Wheeler, Patty Larkin, The McGarrigle Sisters; Celtic, Andy M. Stewart, Back of the Moon, Findlay Napier; Northern England, Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies; Blues/Americana, Chris Smither, Guy Davis, The Holmes Brothers; Contemporary folk, Greg Brown, Jonathan Edwards, Laura Love, Aztec Two Step; Western Swing, Elana Janes and the Hot Club of Cowtown; Bluegrass/folk, Tim O'Brien, Darrell Scott; Jazz, Triple Play, and Richard Thompson.
Dinner is informal, but friendly! With tablecloths, candles, low lights, great food and friends or with fellow audience members, it begins a great evening.
